JTF 2024 (Ages 8 - 16)
This year we have entered two teams for Get Your Wigle On to enter into this years Junior Musical Theatre Festival. The festival is held once a year in Birmingham and brings together talented young performers for a day of inspiring and exciting musical theatre performances and events.
INTRODUCTION TO THE FESTIVAL
This years event is held on 18th May 2024.
For this years event we plan on entering two teams and this information is for those ages 8 - 16 who are interested in getting involved in a fun filled musical day!
WHAT THE WEEKEND ENTAILS
SATURDAY 18TH MAY 2024
The team will be picked up at 7am from Shrewsbury to travel by coach to Birmingham ICC.
Following a mass 'kick off' and warm-up session the day-long programme will consist of:
Groups perform 10 minutes of a Broadway Junior musical for adjudication by leading theatre professionals. Groups are rated in the areas of music, acting, dance and overall performance. The adjudicators offer constructive criticism to each group to encourage further learning in key areas.
This is not provided this year so all children are required to bring a packed lunch with enough snacks to get them through the day.
NEW WORKS SHOWCASE
After lunch everyone gathers in the theatre for a sneak peak at two new Broadway Junior shows soon to be released for licensing. One of these performances will be done by our Wigle team (formed from our Beauty and the Beast cast) in full costume on the main stage!
A West End star will perform and have a Q and A with the students.
WORKSHOPS FOR STUDENTS
West End professionals and master teachers from across the globe offer interactive workshops in all aspects of musical theatre performance. Groups will rotate around THREE separate workshops, each focusing on one of the core skills; acting, singing and dancing. Dance workshops are delivered directly by West End shows, teaching the actual choreography from those shows.
During adjudications, 2 students from each group will be selected as AllStars. AllStars will participate in exclusive workshops and will rehearse and perform a featured number at the Awards Ceremony on the main stage.
To celebrate the accomplishments of the day everyone gathers in the main theatre to watch the AllStars perform. Outstanding performances are selected from the morning's adjudications and groups perform their numbers on the stage. Awards are given for achievements in dance, music, acting and ensemble as well as outstanding individual performances.
Special guest stars will perform on the main stage as a special treat to those attending the event.
Coach is expected back in Shrewsbury at around 8.30pm
OUR ADJUDICATED PERFORMANCE
This year we are entering the festival with a 10 minute performance from Madagascar Jr - although this may change should signups lead us to another show option.
The whole piece will be an ensemble section and the group will be involved throughout the complete 10 minute performance. There will be harmonies to learn and fun choreography of varying difficulty levels. There will be solo opportunities dependant on the section of the show selected that will be cast following the completion of the team - however the whole experience is designed to be a team effort!
This is a trip not to be missed!
